"'Machinations' was perhaps the most fun production we have had. The one act fit perfectly into the school's schedule. Rehearsals were easy to coordinate with only 6 speaking parts and two separate machines. We represented the 'Output' with different sized balls ranging from palm size to large yoga balls. We also designated blue to machine 1 and red to machine 2. When the two machines went rogue we projected a video and sound of John Adams's 'Short Ride on a Fast Machine.' The music was perfect and the projection really enhanced the movement on stage." -- W.S., Gilbertsville, NY

Machinations
"I chose to produce 'Machinations' as our Waukee High School one act for the 2015 IHSSA large group speech contest. I loved the original concept and the potential for stylistic choices. We decided to embrace the 1950s Twilight Zone-esque feel and really play up the science fiction, drama, and comedy with technical and acting choices. The 23 members of the cast and crew had such a blast performing this production. We discovered new innuendos and potential moments every time we rehearsed. One audience member couldn't stop talking about how we had blown his mind. 'Machinations' was well-received by audience and judges alike, as we were nominated as outstanding performers and were honored as a non-performing one act for the IHSSA's 2015 All-State festival." -- A.Y.
