It's 1986 in rural Mississippi and the ladies of Teterboro Trailer Park are in quite a jam after slacker Bobcat is served his just desserts. Meals and motives abound, and alliances with a nosy neighbor and a six-toed cowboy are forged. What follows is a nonstop madcap cover-up full of hilarious hijinks, witty retorts, a church play gone haywire, and "bunco!"
With Playwright Christie Perfetti Williams
What inspired you to write this play? I got to know the wonderful folks at Pike County Little Theatre when they were producing my play, "Bettye and the Jockettes Spinning Records at the Holiday Inn." And I wanted to write a piece that would compliment their company, embrace their comedic talent, and be enjoyed by their audience. All of it came true. The debut showing of "The Pike County Potluck...and Poisoning" was a huge hit!
What's your favorite part or line in the play? Why? I have so many favorite lines. But without giving up the joke, Rumi's "Calgon" line delivered to Callie is one of the funniest!
Where did the characters come from? Are they based on people you know? The characters are all fictional but as the play is set in the 1980s, I think there are definitely elements of TV comedies and comedians from that era in the show. The Golden Girls, Threes Company, Mamas Family, Cheers...If you're into '80s nostalgia, this play and these characters are for you!
What did you try to achieve with this play? I wanted to write a large cast, fast-paced, family-friendly comedy that would have a little something or everyone to enjoy. Just like a good potluck!
