Taylor is the new girl in school but seems to be carrying a lot of secrets. Her friendship with Sean, a bright senior, is sparked over a mutual love of science and time travel theories. As she becomes a part of his friend group, it becomes clear that she may be new to more than just the school, but this timeline as well.

What inspired you to write this play?
I really like the concept of time travel. Writing about it can be difficult because of potential plot holes and paradoxes, but the concept itself is fascinating. The idea of the daughter of the inventor of time travel going back to fix her dad's life resonated with me and I really enjoyed creating this story.
What's your favorite part or line in the play? Why?
Taylor's monologue right before she disappears is my favorite part of the play. The first time we read it as a group there wasn't a dry eye in the room. There is foreshadowing leading up to that point, but the actual speech itself is really touching and has a tot of gravity. My son, Rhett, was a senior when we did this play (he was my sound designer) so for me the whole thing hits differently. I am apparently getting soft in my old age.
Where did the characters come from? Are they based on people you know?
Most of the time the characters in my plays mirror students I am teaching or have taught here at Laney, but this group is different. Sean's gang is really MY gang from high school. Josh is based off of my high school best friend Joey and Mark and Kai and Bella are all based off of friends from that period as well. The easy group camaraderie that you see in high school isn't as common in older adults. It would be fun to go back and spend a week or so in that dynamic.
What did you try to achieve with this play?
I like telling the type of stories that my kids would want to watch on Netflix. Time travel stories are usually deep and can really give you a lot to think about. I hope this play gives you as much to talk about with your actors as it did for me and mine.
Do you have anything else you'd like to add?
I am perfectly fine with small alterations to fit your situation. If you have any questions please reach out to Eldridge for approval.
