Dark Tower
"Stage it as simply as possible. We used platforms and windows to represent the tower and added a 4' x 8' wooden door. We made simple trees out of spray foam insulation and tubular concrete forms. We also added fog to the scenes that take place at the tower/marsh. Make sure and delineate the past scenes from the present/tower scenes using lighting or stage areas, etc." -- B.M., Amarillo High School Theatre, Amarillo, TX

Great for Character Work and a Emotional Challenges
We had such a great time working on this show! My students dove very deep into character work with this show and truly enjoyed the process. This was a huge emotional challenge, and it was an excellent way to push students to connect in a post-Covid Pandemic world.

This show was our Fall Production and our One Act Competition piece. We performed in 40 minutes, so don't worry about time limits. The judges were confused a bit about the story until the second flashback, but our students were never in the dark about anything.

The costuming is tons of fun, with plenty of opportunity for student input and design work. We are a middle school, and our students helped with every technical aspect and ran the show themselves both at school and at competition. Staging can be done simply, so even if your program is small or money is tight this show is a great option.
