The middle school years are a time of individuality, of finding out who you truly are inside. Here is a collection of 60 monologues where the characters talk, think, and feel like real-life pre- and early teens. The monologues, which each run from two to three minutes in performance time, highlight the most unpredictable, explosive and often humorous years of young adulthood, those middle school years. This collection is perfect for acting exercises, auditions, showcases, and variety shows.

Behind The Scenes

PLAYWRIGHT DEBORAH JACOBSON TALKS ABOUT

“MIDDLE SCHOOL AWAKENINGS”

Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THESE MONOLOGUES?

A: I was inspired to write pieces for the younger teen market as some senior high school pieces seem too mature.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ONE? WHY?

A: My favorite piece for girls is "The Trained Mediator" as it is based on a true event! My favorite for guys is "That Curse Word Dog" because I tried to make imperfect people endearing.

Q: WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART IN CREATING THIS WORK?

A: It was most difficult keeping the monologues age appropriate yet still fun!

Q: WHAT DID YOU TRY TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS COLLECTION?

A: I tried to create both realistic people and interesting character types.
